Slotted into a courtyard and opposite the literally gold covered Prada museum in the Fondazione Prada campus, Bar Luce was designed by Film Director Wes Anderson to recreate a ‘typical Milanese cafe’.
We’re not saying he failed, but in our, albeit limited, experience of Milan cafes, Bar Luce was far from typical.
Described by Anderson as; “a space for real life with numerous good spots for eating, drinking, talking, reading, etc. I tried to make it a bar I would want to spend my own nonfictional afternoons in. While I do think it would make a pretty good movie set, I think it would be an even better place to write a movie” - walking into Bar Luce is like stepping back in time.
As you chow down on a prawn sandwich, you almost expect Mad Men’s Don Draper to stride in and order an Old Fashioned and a slab of exquisitely decorated cake.
